Vintage Sonsco Japan Pottery Creamer & Sugar w/ Lid Green Drip Glaze

Item Description

This charming mid‑century Sonsco Janpan Potter creamer and sugar bowl with lid set was produced by Sonsco, an importer known for distributing Japanese ceramics to the U.S. market during the 1950s–1970s. The set features a rich green drip glaze, a style popular in Japanese export pottery of the era. The glaze cascades from a darker rim into a mottled green body, creating a unique organic look on each piece.

The sugar bowl includes its original lid, and both pieces display the sturdy, slightly rustic construction typical of mid‑century Japanese stoneware. Sets like this were commonly sold in American department stores and gift shops, often marketed as affordable yet stylish tableware.

This does come with the original label.  Condition is good.

Measurements are 4 1/2″ across and 2 1/2″ tall on the sugar.  The creamer is appr 3 1/2″ tall and 2 1/2″ on the creamer.  Remember these are approximates.  Please check out the photos as they add the to the description.

 A Little History

After World War II, Japan became a major exporter of ceramics to the United States. Companies like Sonsco (short for Sons Company) acted as importers and distributors, bringing in decorative and functional pottery from small and mid‑sized Japanese kilns.

The drip‑glaze style—especially in greens, browns, and blues—became a hallmark of 1950s–1970s Japanese pottery. Each piece was hand‑glazed, resulting in subtle variations that collectors appreciate today. Sonsco pieces are often unmarked or simply labeled “Japan,” making them accessible entry‑level collectibles for fans of mid‑century ceramics.
