First one
LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY VINTAGE SMALL  CHARCOAL SLATE STONE CHALKBOARDs, W/PINE FRAME & ROUND, DOUBLE LAPPED JOINTS CORNERS
DIMENSIONS:
Vertical: 7 1/2″ Width x 8 ½ ” Height

DESCRIPTION:
Considering this late 19th-early 20th-century American black slate, hand-held, elementary school chalkboard is over 100 years old, it would have to be considered to still be in relatively well-preserved overall vintage condition. It has a bit of slate stone loss on one of its corners but the slate stone is still intact and doesn’t suffer from any significant gouges, chips, fractures or old repairs. The small size of the slate and its double-lapped joints wooden frame seems to have largely prevented the slate stone from splitting or cracking over the years it was used and often handled. This American real black slate chalkboard, still has the white dust of school chalk.  The chalkboard is well-used and is held together by double lap joints.    Exceptional and a wonderful late 19th-early 20th century American educational cultural artifact. Used by teachers during instruction and students at their desks, this educational tool at the time, was a highly valued commodity and one that would have been taken care of and carefully guarded. There is also a nail hole for hanging it up.
Second one
DIMENSIONS:
Vertical: 7 1/2″ Width x 10 ½ ” Height
DESCRIPTION:
This one has two cracks that run on a slant through the slate.    The small size of the slate and its double-lapped joints wooden frame seems to have prevented the slate stone from losing the stone over the years it was used and often handled. This American real black slate chalkboard, still has the white dust of school chalk.  The chalkboard is well-used and is held together by double lap joints.   There are drilled holes all around the edging of this one.  I wonder if there were pegs for a game or maybe just decorative?  In one of the holes, there is an old string that I am assuming was used to hang this one up.
Imagine your child or grandchild asking for a tablet and you handing them one of these with chalk?
